Hello Swim Families!

Everyone should be in the TeamUnify (gomotion team website) system now – either you registered your swimmer there or Andria went in and added accounts for all families. Please go in and check your account (or look for the log-in email instructions). Please go in and add your swimmer(s) and/or update their information.

Here are some updates on our swim meets and also your links for USA Swimming Registration.

SUWC Sea Snakes is a sanctioned USA Swimming team. All members practicing with our team needs to have an individual USA Swimming membership. You have two options. You must be registered with USA Swimming by 9/29/23 if you want to participate in October swim meets. If you are not planning on attending those meets and you also do not plan to stay through the next practice session, you do not have to get a USA Swimming membership. Let me know if you have any registration problems or if you have any questions. Ewheatle@shepherd.edu

USA Swimming Premium Membership - Full access to practice participation and all swim meets for the year including championships

USA Swimming Flex Membership- Full access to practice participation and up to only TWO swim meets for the year, NOT including championships

We now just have two swim meets for this session in the month of October. At this time, we can not swim at the HAGY Gator meet on Oct. 14th because we are not a YMCA team. If they figure out how it would work with the rules to include us, we will join them for future meets.

The Mercersburg meet on Oct. 7-8 is an optional/secondary USA Swimming meet for 12 and older swimmers. The Fox Invitational Meet is our team’s primary meet for Session 1 and the month of October. There are events here for 8u swimmers such as 25s of each stroke, distance events for older swimmers, and also we will be participating in as many relays as we can organize with our swimmers! See the Swim Meet page on our website to declare your attendance or “opt-in.”

Meet attendance will come with a meet fee – there will be both individual entry fees that get paid to the host team (cash/check), and there is an administrative fee that will be paid to the Wellness Center (card etc. at the front desk or online). We will update you on how to pay these fees as soon as we have the systems set up! After you have “opted-in” your swimmers online on the team website, we will get you a registration form that you will use to calculate your meet fees and turn in with your payment. Usually meet fees are based on a per-swimmer per-event signed up to swim, plus an overall entry fee. When you click on the meet information on our website, you can see a link to a document that is the Meet Notice file – this will give you information of warm-up timing, what sessions look like, and what events are being offered at that meet. You and your swimmer can choose which days (either just one or both) you would like to attend. When you opt-in for the meet, you can utilize  the “notes” section to tell your coaches which events you would like to swim.

Remember, swim meets are not required to be on the team. But, they are highly encouraged! It is always nice to have something to work towards. If your athlete is nervous about meet participation, have them come and watch a meet so they know what to expect. Talk to your coaches to help them find events they are less nervous about swimming and if there is anything else we can do to help them feel more excited about competing.
